Discounts on gadgets and internet service

Households can now afford the internet and devices they require for work, education, healthcare, and other purposes thanks to the new federal FCC Program (FCC).

The FCC provides qualifying households with the following benefits:
  • ✔   Using participating internet providers, you can receive a monthly discount of up to $30 on high-speed internet service.

  • ✔   For those who live on eligible tribal lands, participating internet providers are offering discounts of up to $75 per month on high-speed internet service.

  • ✔   A one-time savings of up to $100 on a desktop, laptop, or tablet (with a co-payment of at least $10 but not more than $50).

Monthly internet service costs can often be eliminated by combining the FCC Program with low-cost internet offers from participating providers across California. If your household has a low income or takes part in specific assistance programs, you might be eligible. Per household, only one device and one monthly service discount are permitted.

A household: what is it?

Even though they are unrelated to one another, a household is a collection of people who live together and share finances.

  • Utilizing information from the 2019 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Estimates and Measurement Lab's NDT U.S. county statistics from October 15, 2020 to October 15, 2021, Connect Arizona produced the Arizona Internet Inequity County Profiles.

  • ACS 5-Year Projections
As of October 2021, the most recent census data release is the American Community Survey for 2019. More detailed data on smaller counties not included in the 1-Year Estimates can be found in the 5-Year Estimates (2015-2019). The ACS 5-Year Estimates under "Types of Computers and Internet Subscriptions" contain statistics on the type of computer and internet used in a household. The ACS 5-Year Estimates' "Age and Sex" section contains information on population and age.

The Disengaged / Disconnected

  • Unconnected Learners / Students

Children who are without broadband or satellite internet and are between the ages of five and seventeen are referred to as "underconnected students." Even though they have an internet connection, students who only have dial-up or cellular data do not have one that is sufficient for online courses and/or online resources.

  • Households / Families Without Computers

A household is considered to have no computer if it only has a smartphone or no computer of any kind. A smartphone does not meet the minimum requirements for online classes and/or online resources, despite the fact that it can connect to the internet. A standard laptop, desktop, or tablet can fulfill the minimal requirement.

Speed Matters

It's About Speed

  • Reliable connectivity is necessary in today's world to facilitate a wide range of online activities. The majority of websites and online resources require a minimum download and upload speed of 25 Mbps and 3 Mbps, respectively.

  • A sample of at least 10,000 speed tests conducted in each county between October 15, 2020, and October 15, 2021 is used to calculate the average internet speeds for each county. Information gathered from the speed tests.
